General Language Courses

Here are the  General Language French courses being offered in Term 4, 2018 which runs from mid-October to early December.

I often refer to these courses as “all-skills”, as they take a holistic approach to learning French, allowing time to develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. The class structure is one that allows for student participation as well as traditional teacher-based learning. Students are given a small amount of homework each week and revision is built into every lesson. The classroom experience is designed to be enjoyable, informative and stimulating.

The French classes listed below are held in the Mosman Art Gallery, on the corner of Art Gallery Way and Myahgah Road, Mosman. It’s a very handy location in Spit Junction, with on-street parking available as well as up to 3-hours parking in the Vista Street council carpark.

Please read through each course description to see which one is right for you.

Superior French (B2)

Wednesdays from 9.30-11.30am

For upper-intermediate and semi-advanced learners of French (or a B2 level) I offer a class where we read French from a variety of sources, listen to French in different contexts, discuss topics, and write texts. We practise speaking using a mix of guided exercises and off-the-cuff activities. We also work on some of the finer points of French grammar. This is a fun class which works on building confidence and competency as we marvel at the beauty of the French language and the idiosyncrasies of the French together. Students in this group would be familiar with more difficult language structures, tenses and moods such as the conditional and subjunctive, and all sorts of pronouns and conjunctions. There is no set text for this class. New students are welcome to come and join in the fun!

Time: Wednesdays from 9.30-11.30am

Dates: Term 4 runs from Wednesday 17 October to Wednesday 5 December (8 weeks)

Cost: 8 weeks ~ $300 per person (includes all materials)

Location: Mosman Art Gallery, on the corner of Art Gallery Way and Myahgah Road, Mosman

For solid intermediate learners of French (or a B1 level) I run this class.  This is a great class for people who have quite a bit of French under their belt, and who are now working on putting it all together! We work on developing all skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking through a variety of exercises, but are now putting much more emphasis on speaking. Students in this class would be familiar with the passé composé, the imperfect, future and conditional tenses and would also know about object pronouns. We will continue with our textbook – the BBC French Experience 2 (and accompanying CDs) – at around Chapter 9. Please note that students are to purchase their own copy prior to term commencement (see below for stockists). New students are always welcome to join this fun group who are at an exciting stage with their French!

This class is suited to adult learners who are at a lower intermediate level A2-B1 level). This term we are continuing with our relatively new textbook, The French Experience 2 (and CDs) – around Chapter 6. All skills are developed in this well-rounded course. Students here would be confident using the present tense and the passé compose, the imperfect and the futur simple.
